FAQ
What to expect
Counselling can be a challenging experience. We may be starting to uncover what we have been trying to avoid our whole lives. We may feel uncomfortable as we start to notice and be with feelings that we haven't explored before. Just know this is part of the process and you may feel worse, before feeling better.

Do I have to feel?
Feeling is part of the human experience. Yet, we aren't taught how to be with uncomfortable feelings. Often we are told by others that we are making them mad or doing something they don't like. This is an indication that they may actually be feeling uncomfortable. When we are told not to do or feel, we don't build capacity to understand or be with very normal human feelings that range from joy to anger to sadness. You don't have to feel, but during counselling, you will definitely start to learn and build capacity to do so. Feeling may also be experienced through sensations in the body, thoughts and even images. There isn't only one way of feeling, but likely you have already done it!
What is experiential learning?
Experiential learning is exactly as it sounds, we learn through experience. Since our bodies learned how to be in relationship through particular experiences, the process of therapy can be about unlearning what we may have learned in order to survive in our environment. Having a new or different experience can teach our bodies and nervous system to feel safe and/or secure when it learned that being in relationship was unsafe or even threatening. During counselling you may be invited to experience in different ways, if you are open to this type of therapy there is a potential for growth and healing that will elicit change. Experiential learning engages all of our senses, which can expedite the personal development you may be looking for.
